Bihar Fake IPS Officer Lying? Cops Claim Teen Fabricated Story, Bought Uniform Himself

Mithilesh Manjhi came into the spotlight when he was taken into custody after he walked into the police station in Bihar’s Jamui dressed as an IPS officer with a gun.

Remember the 18-year-old Bihar boy who made it to headlines after showing up to a local police station in uniform carrying a pistol? It has now come to the fore that the young man might not be innocent and that his claim of having been duped by a man into paying ₹2 lakh to appoint him as an IPS officer was fabricated.

Mithlesh Kumar Manjhi’s story went viral on social media after the National Crime Investigation Bureau shared his video in a police officer's uniform looking confused. The internet sympathised with him, pitying him for falling for a scam. However, the police have now claimed that Manjhi might not be as innocent as he seems to be.

Who is Mithlesh Manjhi?

Mithlesh Manjhi came into the spotlight when he was taken into custody after he walked into the police station in Bihar’s Jamui dressed as an IPS officer with a gun. It was later discovered that the gun was fake.

While in custody, he revealed that he was allegedly conned by a man named Manoj Singh, who talked him into paying Rs 2 lakh to help him become an IPS officer.

Manjhi claimed that he had met Singh a few months earlier and had borrowed money from his uncle to pay it to him. He said that the uniform was given to him by Singh, who also asked him to wear it and go to the police station.

During investigation, Manjhi also gave Singh's mobile number to the police. After hearing his story, the young man was released from custody and police began investigating Singh.

What The Police Probe Revealed

During the probe, the Bihar police said that they did not find any evidence of Manjhi paying Rs 2 lakh to anyone in return for being appointed as an IPS police officer. Bihar police further said that the story narrated by Manjhi was completely fabricated, Hindustan Times reported.

Manjhi claimed he had borrowed money from his maternal uncle to become an IPS officer. However, during the probe, when police asked his maternal uncle about it, he denied giving him any money.

His uncle reportedly told police that he had once given ₹60,000 for his mother's treatment, ₹45,000 for building a house, and ₹50,000 at the time of a marriage in family. But he denied giving him money to get a job.

Subsequently, the police contacted everyone named Manoj Singh, who resided in the area that Manjhi had told them about. But he could not identify any of them.Besides this, Singh’s mobile number, which Manjhi had given to the police was switched off. It was later found to be registered in the name of another person, police said.

Police also traced Manjhi’s location on September 20 to find out where he was the day the incident occurred. They discovered he was not in the Khaira area, where he claimed the conman gave him the uniform. Instead, he was in Lakhisarai.  Police suspect he bought the uniform himself from there, the report noted.

SHO Mintu Kumar Singh said that in the police were verrifying the information given by Manjhi. He said that so far, the information has been proved to be baseless.

In a recent video, Manjhi had also shared that he has given up on his dream to become an IPS officer and now wants to become a doctor.
