Delta Plus Scare: Centre Announces Existence Of Most Virulent Variant In Telangana

Hyderabad: Albeit a declining trend of Covid caseload in Telangana, there is a growing concern over what might be the impact of the Delta Plus variant, considering the fact that it is more virulent. The Centre has announced the existence of Delta Plus variant cases in the state after The Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genomics Consortium (ISACOG) — monitors the genomic sequencing of SARS-CoV-2 — has detected two cases in the state.

The central government has announced something that is causing some concern. The Center has clarified that the Delta Plus variant, a new mutation of the coronavirus, has come to light in Telangana. The Union Ministry of Health on Friday officially announced that there are two Delta plus variant cases in Telangana as on July 23. So far, there are doubts about the existence of Delta Plus in Telangana, but with the latest announcement by the central government, it has become clear that the most virulent variant of Coronavirus exists in the state.

However, ISACOG has so far identified 70 cases of the Delta Plus variant across the country. Maharashtra has the highest number of cases at 23, followed by Madhya Pradesh (11) and Tamil Nadu (10). The Delta variant has wreaked havoc in the country since the second wave. The graph of the corona cases suddenly went up and created serious panic among the people. Now that Delta type has been transformed into Delta Plus with a few more changes in the genome sequencing. Central and state governments are already concerned that this could lead to a third wave.

614 new cases registered in Telangana

On the other hand, 614 new cases in Telangana were registered, according to a media bulletin released on Friday (July 30) evening. This brings the total number of Covid victims to 6,44,330 so far. Four others died on the same day while receiving treatment. The death toll rose to 3,800 in the state. Another 657 people recovered from the corona, bringing the total number of survivors to 6,31,389. The recovery rate in Telangana is 97.99 per cent while the corona death rate is 0.58 per cent.

1,11,251 Covid tests were performed across the state on Friday. Of these, 614 new cases were identified. Another 9,141 people across the state are receiving corona treatment.

On the other hand, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi took to Twitter about the distorted numbers of Covid cases being reported by many states in the country.
