YouTube To Now Let Creators Edit Out, Mute Or Replace Copyrighted Segment From Their Videos

Users now have the option to edit out only the claimed segment of their video. Alternatively, they can also mute or replace the song.

The Google-owned video streaming giant YouTube keeps on releasing new features to enhance the user experience. It also tries to focus on the creator side. However, creators have sometimes gotten the shorter side of the stick. The streaming giant has had a strict copyright policy due to which often several videos get flagged over the use of copyrighted music. However now it has rolled out an upgraded 'erase song' tool that has been designed to help creators if they wish to remove copyrighted music from their videos.

This new tool will employ an AI-powered algorithm to detect and remove copyrighted music with accuracy. Earlier creators did not have a choice in the matter if they wanted to remove the objectionable part.

Videos receive a “Content ID claim” when there is an issue with copyrighted music. This may result in restrictions on where the video can be viewed or whether it can be monetized. According to YouTube's support page, "To remove the claim and the associated restrictions, you can edit out the claimed content without having to upload a new video."

Users now have the option to edit out only the claimed segment of their video. Alternatively, they can replace the song. If the audio in your video is claimed, you might be able to swap it with music from the YouTube Audio Library. Another option is to mute the claimed audio. You can choose to mute just the song or the entire video's audio.

How To Remove Copyright Content

  • Sign in to YouTube Studio
  • From the left panel, select Content
  • In the filter bar click on Copyright
  • Choose the desired video
  • In the Restrictions column, hover over Copyright.
  • Hit on See Details
  • Go to the video section under the Content
  • Choose relevant claims and click on Select Actions
  • Trim out the copyrighted segment, replace the song or mute it
