Elon Musk's X To Hire 100 Content Moderators: Details Here

Since the acquisition of the company by Musk in 2022, criticisms have been directed at the billionaire for both his controversial posts and his attempts to revamp the platform's content moderation policies.

In a recent announcement, Elon Musk-owned social media firm X (formerly Twitter) disclosed plans to establish a "Trust and Safety Center of Excellence" at its upcoming office in Austin, Texas. The primary focus of this initiative is to combat child abuse content, with the company aiming to hire 100 content moderators for the cause by the year's end, as revealed by a senior executive at X over the weekend.

The decision to bolster its content moderation team comes ahead of a significant US Senate hearing scheduled for January 31, addressing the issue of online child sexual exploitation. Linda Yaccarino, the Chief Executive of X, is slated to testify alongside the CEOs of Meta Platforms, Snap, TikTok, and Discord.

Providing insights into the ongoing developments, Joe Benarroch, X's Head of Business Operations, stated that the team for the Austin office is currently in the process of formation. He emphasised that achieving the target of filling the positions by the end of the year is contingent on identifying the right talent for the task.

Since the acquisition of the company by Musk in 2022, criticisms have been directed at the billionaire for both his controversial posts and his attempts to revamp the platform's content moderation policies. Addressing concerns, X outlined in a blog post on Friday that it had suspended 12.4 million accounts in the previous year for violating rules related to child sexual exploitation. This marked a significant increase from the 2.3 million account suspensions reported in 2022.

In addition to combating child abuse content, the new Austin centre is expected to contribute to the company's efforts in addressing various forms of harmful content, as highlighted by X in its recent communication.
