J&K News: BJP, National Conference Protest on Jobs, Power Rates and Statehood Demand

Political tensions have intensified in Jammu and Kashmir as BJP and National Conference workers took to the streets with competing demands, turning the region into a fresh arena of political confrontation. In Srinagar, BJP leaders and workers staged a protest against the Omar Abdullah-led government, raising issues including unemployment, alleged irregularities in recruitment, corruption and rising electricity rates. The protesters attempted to move towards the Secretariat, but police stopped them along the route as security was tightened across the area. BJP workers alleged that force was used against them during the confrontation, while authorities focused on preventing any face-off between rival groups. Traffic restrictions and additional security deployment were reported around the protest route. At the same time, National Conference workers held demonstrations demanding the restoration of full statehood for Jammu and Kashmir. The party also targeted the BJP, alleging that promises related to statehood and employment opportunities have not been fulfilled. The competing demonstrations have brought the political rivalry between the ruling National Conference and the BJP onto the streets, with both sides highlighting issues they say directly affect the people of Jammu and Kashmir. While the BJP is putting pressure on the state government over employment, electricity costs and governance-related concerns, the National Conference is continuing to push for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s statehood. With demonstrations taking place across Srinagar and Jammu, security agencies are keeping a close watch to prevent the rival groups from coming face to face.
