WhatsApp Has A Few Surprises For iPhone Users: New Widget, Camera Upgrade, More
While the update is available right now, WhatsApp has noted that not all users will receive the new features right away.
WhatsApp has introduced a significant update for iPhone users, bringing a new Home Screen widget tailored for chats. After installing the latest version 24.21.81, released on Monday, users can add the widget to their Home Screen via the Edit interface, as reported by MacRumors.
This feature is designed to offer faster and more convenient access to chats, allowing users to select from chat lists like Recents, Favorites, Pinned, or Frequently Contacted. The goal is to make communication more streamlined by reducing the time spent navigating through the app to access important conversations.
Enhancements To WhatsApp Camera
In addition to the widget, WhatsApp has introduced enhancements to its built-in camera. Users can now zoom between 0.5x and 3x when taking photos or recording videos within the app.
This update gives users more control over their camera functions, making it easier to capture moments with precision.
New Status Tags
WhatsApp has also added a new feature to its Status updates, enabling users to mention others by simply tapping the @ button in the Status composer, further improving the user experience when interacting with friends and family.
While the update is available today, WhatsApp has noted that not all users will receive the new features right away. The rollout will take place over the next few weeks, meaning some may have to wait before they can access the latest improvements.

WhatsApp To Get 'Chat Memory'
WhatsApp is also making strides in its integration of Meta AI, enhancing the app’s personalisation capabilities. Meta AI will soon be able to remember details shared by users, allowing for more tailored and relevant interactions. This AI-driven memory feature aims to improve user experience by remembering preferences and interests. For example, if a user requests meal recommendations, Meta AI will avoid suggesting dishes the user dislikes or is allergic to, offering suggestions that align with individual preferences.
While this advancement promises to make interactions smoother and more intuitive, it has raised concerns about user privacy. Some worry that the retention of personal details by Meta AI may pose risks, sparking debates about data security. Nonetheless, WhatsApp's focus on personalization marks a shift toward creating more engaging, user-friendly interactions within the app. The introduction of AI memory is part of the broader trend of turning Meta AI into a more proactive, personal assistant-like feature.
