New Delhi: Bringing a much-needed fix to upload issues on Android, Twitter is working to modify the way it processes video uploads from Android devices, in a bid to reduce video upload time on devices running on Android 9 Pie and above. Twitter is now introducing the fix for Android 9 Pie and above devices that would 720p resolution and lower videos (with bitrates of 3.5 Mbps and lower) to be shared faster with more intelligent processing and stream remixing, according to a report published by Android Police.
Twitter Support as well as Twitter Engineering accounts have detailed how the micro blogging platform is working to significantly reduce the upload time on Android by changing the way it processes videos. “We know video uploads have been slow for some of you on Android. To fix that, we’ve improved how we process some of them. Now it should be faster to share videos (720p or lower) on Android 9+ –– less waiting, more Tweeting while we work on the same for higher quality videos,” Twitter posted from its official Twitter Support handle.
"The @Twitter Android team has been busy improving the way we process video uploads for Android 9+🎉 We now support intelligent processing and stream remuxing to increase the speed to process locally," Twitter Engineering posted from its account.
However, for uploading high-res videos, Twitter users would still have to wait. While the experience will be the same for now, the micro blogging site is working to bring these improvements to videos above 720p too, but has not specified a fixed timeline for the fix.
Meanwhile, the platform recently started rolling out a new beta shopping feature called Twitter Shops. Twitter Shops will let merchants handpick a collection of up to 50 products to showcase to shoppers on the micro-blogging platform. The feature, which is free to use, gives people the chance to view products from the profiles of their favourite brands, so when users talk about and discover products on the timeline, they can browse them on Twitter too.
