This comes at a time when there are conversations about the implications of artificial intelligence and simulated content and concerns have risen about robot takeovers, ethical considerations, job displacement, and financial fraud. Also, amidst what some have dubbed "super elections," AI is prominently shaping campaigning efforts.
Meanwhile, Alphabet-owned company Google has said that its AI chatbot, Gemini, will no longer respond to inquiries concerning global elections this year. This decision is aimed at averting potential errors in technology application amid escalating worries over misinformation. The decision comes in response to mounting apprehensions about the proliferation of fake news and misinformation, fueled by the progress in generative AI technology, notably in image and video generation.
Also, an official blog post from Google mentioned that the tech giant is dedicated to help in the election process by providing voters with top-notch information, protecting its platforms from misuse and assisting individuals in navigating AI-generated content. Notably, millions of people in India are eligible voters.
Facebook parent Meta also said last momnth that it is building tools that can identify invisible markers at scale -- specifically, the “AI generated” information in the C2PA and IPTC technical standards -- so that it can label images from Google, OpenAI, Microsoft, Adobe, Midjourney as well as Shutterstock as they implement their plans for adding metadata to images created by their tools.
