iPhone 16: Specifications, Features

The iPhone 16 boasts a 6.1-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2556x1179 pixels and a pixel density of 460 ppi. It is rated IP68, ensuring protection against water, dust, and splashes.

The iPhone 16 is driven by the A18 Bionic chip, which uses second-generation 3-nanometer technology to improve Apple Intelligence capabilities. Featuring a 16-core Neural Engine, the chip is optimised for executing large generative models and machine learning tasks, making it up to twice as fast as the A16 chip. Additionally, the 6-core CPU offers a 30% performance improvement over its predecessor.

A standout feature of the iPhone 16 is its Camera Control, providing quick access to visual intelligence for fast object and location recognition. This feature enables rapid access to the camera for photo or video capture. An upcoming update will further enhance its visual intelligence capabilities. The iPhone 16 is equipped with a 48MP Fusion camera, featuring a 2x telephoto lens and a 12MP ultra-wide camera. For selfies, it includes a 12MP TrueDepth front camera with an ƒ/1.9 aperture. Additionally, the phone supports spatial photo and video capture, and new audio editing tools like Audio Mix allow users to adjust sound, create studio-like recordings, or balance vocals with background noise. Enhanced machine learning reduces wind noise, minimising unwanted disturbances.

Running on iOS 18, the iPhone 16 introduces Apple Intelligence, a set of advanced features that will be available through a free software update. The initial rollout, beginning next month, will cover multiple regions, starting with U.S. English. Apple Intelligence integrates a range of writing tools into iOS 18, enabling users to rewrite, proofread, and summarise text in apps such as Mail, Notes, Pages, and other third-party platforms. In the Notes and Phone apps, users can record, transcribe, and summarise audio. When making phone calls, participants are notified of recordings, and after the call, Apple Intelligence offers a summary of the key points discussed.
