iOS 17.3 Rolls Out And Brings Useful Stolen Device Protection Feature

Apple has rolled out the iOS 17.3, which the most recent update to its iPhone mobile operating system (OS). A notable addition to the latest iOS is the "Stolen Device Protection" feature, introducing enhanced security measures to safeguard user data in case of a stolen phone. It is recommended for every iPhone user to prioritise enabling this feature, as it enhances data protection effortlessly and should be a top consideration.

Apple's addition of stolen device protection is designed to protect accounts and personal information, especially when the device is outside of familiar environments such as home or workplace. It minimises the risk of compromise in the event of theft.

Once activated, Stolen Device Protection adds increased security measures for specific features and actions when the iPhone goes out of recognised locations. This additional security layer guarantees that even if a thief gains access to the device's passcode, key changes to accounts or the device itself remain inaccessible.

In case a thief attempts to change these settings after unlocking your device, they will need to authenticate with Face ID or Touch ID. This means that even if they possess your passcode, modifying protected settings requires replicating your biometrics, which is a highly challenging task.

Additional verification is mandatory for specific actions, such as accessing saved passwords or payment information in Safari, disabling Lost Mode on the iPhone, erasing the device, using the phone to configure a new Apple device, applying for a new Apple Card, viewing your Apple Card number, or transferring funds with Apple Cash.

It is essential to enable Stolen Device Protection in advance in iOS 17.3. The activation process includes establishing two-factor authentication for the Apple ID and configuring the device with a passcode, Face ID or Touch ID, aling with enabling Find My and setting up Significant Locations.

It is pertinent to note that you need to update your iPhone to iOS 17.3 to benefit from this useful security enhancement by Apple.
