Kashmir Cloudburst: Flash Floods Ravage Baramulla and Kulgam

Heavy rainfall and extreme weather have caused widespread disruption across several Indian states. In Jammu and Kashmir, cloudbursts in Baramulla’s Uri area and Kulgam’s Nandimarg triggered flash floods, sweeping away roads, bridges, houses, and large amounts of debris. Rescue teams were deployed immediately, and residents were advised to stay away from rivers and streams. In Uttar Pradesh, relentless rainfall caused severe waterlogging in Banda, inundating roads, residential areas, and government offices. In Hamirpur, floodwater entered a government primary school, disrupting education, while in Varanasi, rising Ganga water levels submerged several ghats and small temples, prompting authorities to issue safety advisories. Bihar’s Nawada also witnessed extensive urban flooding, with markets and shops submerged after just an hour of rain. The worst flood situation continues in Assam, particularly in Sivasagar and Nagaon districts, where lakhs of people have been affected. Thousands have been displaced, homes and agricultural fields remain underwater, livestock have been lost, and many families are living in relief camps after losing nearly all of their belongings to the devastating floods.
