Cloudburst in Baramulla: Flash Floods Trigger Widespread Destruction in Jammu & Kashmir

Severe weather has worsened conditions across Jammu and Kashmir, with multiple cloudburst incidents triggering flash floods and widespread disruption. In Baramulla’s Uri area, a sudden cloudburst transformed roads into fast-flowing streams, sweeping away debris and damaging roads, bridges, and nearby structures, including a temple. The rapidly rising water created panic among residents as floodwaters continued to spread. Following the incident, the administration immediately deployed rescue and relief teams to the affected area. Authorities also issued advisories asking people to stay away from rivers and streams as a precaution. The crisis was not limited to Baramulla. Around 88 kilometres away, another cloudburst struck the Nandimarg area of Kulgam, creating flood-like conditions. Rainwater overflowed from rivers and streams, inundating agricultural fields and residential areas. Heavy rainfall accompanied by strong winds further intensified the situation, causing local water bodies to swell. With repeated cloudburst incidents affecting both northern and southern parts of Kashmir, concerns are growing over the increasing frequency of extreme weather events and their impact on lives, infrastructure, and public safety across the Valley.
