The last update to the iPad Air was in 2022 when it received the M1 chip.

Apple is all set to launch the new iPad soon. It seems that the iPhone maker is expected to release the iPad in early 2024 as the overseas suppliers have ramped up their production, according to a report by Bloomberg. There is a high chance that the upcoming Pro models of iPad will sport an OLED display, addressing a long-standing demand from consumers. The new iPad Air is set to introduce a 12.9-inch variant which will expand the range of available options.

The development of this is said to be the longest hiatus in iPad history since it was incepted by in 2010 by Apple co-founder Steve Jobs. Around 18 months have passed since the last updates, and the interest of consumers has also in a way diminished. This in a way prompted Apple to come out with a strategic move to reignite demand through innovative design and enhanced performance.

Major Overhaul Of iPad Pro Lineup

The upcoming iPad Pro models are internally referred to by the codenames J717, J721, J718, and J720, and they are set to feature the new M3 chip. These devices will support updated versions of the Apple Pencil and the Magic Keyboard, marking the most significant redesign of the Pro series since 2018.

The last update to the iPad Air was in 2022 when it received the M1 chip. Now, it's set to get a new processor and will also offer a 12.9-inch display option. This strategy is geared towards offering customers a larger iPad at a more affordable price compared to the premium Pro line, which starts at USD 200 more.

Delay In Release

Originally, Apple intended to launch the tablets in late March or early April. However, the launch was delayed as Apple refined the software for the new devices and implemented advanced manufacturing techniques required for the innovative screens.

The launch is now set for an early May 2024 release, just before Apple's eagerly awaited Worldwide Developers Conference.
