Elon Musk Changes CBC News Label To '69% Government Funded' After Broadcaster Pauses Twitter Activities

Elon Musk in a tweet said, "Canadian Broadcasting Corp said they’re “less than 70% government-funded”, so we corrected the label"

It's yet another fun day for Twitteratis and with no surprise CEO Elon Musk is the reason. 'Chief Twit' Musk on Monday evening changed the "government funded media" label of Canadian public broadcaster CBC News to “69% government funded media" after they announced to pause activities on Twitter.

Elon Musk tweeted, "Canadian Broadcasting Corp said they’re “less than 70% government-funded”, so we corrected the label."

On Monday, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) announced that it will pause its activities on Twitter after being labelled ‘government-funded media’. The label was added to the @CBC handle. It did not appear on other network handles like CBC News and Radio-Canada.

Similar labels can be seen on Twitter in other media handles, including BBC, NPR, and Al Jazeera.

CBC claimed that it is, “publicly funded through a parliamentary appropriation that is voted upon by all Members of Parliament. Its editorial independence is protected in law in the Broadcasting Act, as we said in our statement from last week”.

According to CBC, it received government funding of $1.24 billion Canadian dollars ($926 million) in 2021-22 and $1.39 billion Canadian dollars ($1.03 billion)in 2020-21.

The label  was changed to "69% government funded media" after a Twitter Daily News said in a tweet, "The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation has halted its use of Twitter after being labelled "government-funded media," The public broadcaster says this label undermines its credibility."

A user reacted, "69% Give them the benefit of the doubt"

To which, Musk replied, "Good point, generosity is always the right move. 69% it is!"

Such moves by Elon Musk are not new. Previously, Elon Musk had changed the Twitter logo to Dogo Meme following up on his promise made before the company takeover.

Musk's surprise move on has taken Twitter by storm. Twitteratis are having fun with "Twitter version 2.0".

A user tweeted, "Twitter version 2.0 is absolutely amazing."

Another user said, "Who needs a stand-up comedian when you've got Elon Musk? His witty sarcasm and hilarious memes have us cracking up every time."
