Tamil Nadu: Stalin Extends Covid-19 Lockdown Till July 31 With New Relaxations

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin today (July 16) extended the Covid-19-imposed lockdown in the state till June 31 with new relaxation.

Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government on Friday extended the Covid-19 lockdown in the state till June 31 amid warnings of the third wave of coronavirus. However, the govt also announced a list of new relaxations.

Bus services remain prohibited

Releasing an official statement, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said that inter-state public transport will continue to be prohibited, however, bus services to and from Puducherry will be allowed.

All gatherings will remain closed

According to the new guidelines, restaurants, bars, theatres, swimming pools, zoos and any kind of social, educational institutions, political, cultural, and sports events will remain closed.

Essential events

As many 50 people for marriage ceremonies and 20 people for funerals services will be allowed, Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin said.

50% student capacity

ITIs, industrial schools, type-writing schools can function with 50 per cent student capacity on a rotational basis.

Besides, teachers can come to schools for admission-related work and the distribution of textbooks.

Meanwhile, the state on July 15 recorded 2,405 fresh Covid-19 cases and 49 Covid-19 casualties. The total number of SARS-CoV-2 cases in Tamil Nadu has increased to 25,28,806, while the death toll has marked 33,606.
