The lawyer of YouTuber 'Savukku' Shankar alleged his client was assaulted in Coimbatore Central prison. He claimed that the life of Shankar was in danger and the police personnel allegedly acted out of vendetta. They alleged that the right hand of Shankar was fractured in the assault and no proper treatment was provided to him.
On Saturday, the Coimbatore cybercrime police arrested YouTuber Shankar for making derogatory remarks about women constables from Theni. Following that, he was lodged in Coimbatore central prison.
Addressing media persons on Monday, advocate S Gopalakrishnan mentioned that prior to Shankar being lodged in prison, he was brought to the Coimbatore Medical College Hospital (CMCH) for a medical assessment.
According to him, Shankar had minor injuries on his mouth, and there were no other injuries observed before his imprisonment.
According to The New Indian Express, Gopalakrishnan alleged, "On Saturday night, more than ten policemen assaulted him with a plastic pipe wrapped in cloth. As a result, Shankar suffered severe injuries all over his body. His right arm is fractured."
The advocate alleged that Senthil Kumar, who previously served as the superintendent of prison in Cuddalore during Shankar's imprisonment, is now the superintendent of Coimbatore Central Prison. He claimed that this transition has led to a case being registered against Shankar in Coimbatore, where he is being subjected to torture. According to the advocate, this mistreatment is driven by vendetta, with the police targeting Shankar unjustly.
