Bank Holiday For Mahashivratri: Are Banks Open Or Closed Tomorrow, February 26? Check Here

In Maharashtra, while banks will be closed for Mahashivratri and other regional holidays, public transport, hospitals, and emergency services will continue to operate as usual

Bank Holiday: Mahashivratri, one of the most important and revered Hindu festivals, is celebrated with deep devotion across India. As a result, banks will remain closed in several states, including Uttar Pradesh, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Himachal Pradesh, Odisha, Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, Mizoram, Maharashtra, Haryana, and Uttarakhand.

Mahashivratri honours Lord Shiva, who is considered the Adi Guru, the original teacher from whom the Yogic tradition originates. This year's Mahashivratri will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 26. In addition to bank closures, all government and private schools, as well as colleges, will remain closed on February 26.

Bank Holiday On Mahashivratri 2025: What Banking Services Will Be Available?

In Maharashtra, while banks will be closed for Mahashivratri and other regional holidays, public transport, hospitals, and emergency services will continue to operate as usual.

Shopping malls, private companies, and commercial buildings may remain open depending on their specific policies. Customers are encouraged to complete any bank-related transactions in advance.

Digital banking services, including net banking, will remain available. Unless the bank specifically informs customers of maintenance work, digital services such as online banking, UPI, and ATM services will continue uninterrupted, even on holidays. In fact, you can still initiate a fixed deposit or recurring deposit with ease on these days.

Bank Holiday

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has released a calendar for all bank holidays in February 2025. Note that not all states or regions may observe consecutive holidays. The total number of holidays listed reflects nationwide closures due to state-specific holidays.

For example, during Loosong/Namsoong, banks in Aizawl and Gangtok will be closed, but other states will remain open. Additionally, banks are closed on Sundays, the second and fourth Saturdays of each month, and on national holidays and birth anniversaries. On the first, third, and fifth Saturdays of the month, all bank branches will be open.

Significance Of Mahashivratri

Mahashivratri symbolises the rebirth of consciousness by dispelling ignorance and darkness. Devotees worship Lord Shiva and offer milk and flowers to the Shivling.
