YouTuber Savukku Shankar Held for Defamatory Remarks, Sustains Minor Injury In Post-Arrest Road Accident
Known for managing a YouTube channel and Savukku media, Shankar is a former employee of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.
The Coimbatore police arrested Youtuber Savukku Shankar for purportedly making disparaging comments about women police officers on Saturday. Shankar, also known as A Shankar, was detained in Theni district.
Known for managing a YouTube channel and Savukku media, Shankar is a former employee of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption. Notably, he has been vocal in his criticism of the DMK government.
In a recent interview online, Shankar reportedly made derogatory remarks against police officers. The action was initiated against him after a complaint by a sub-inspector Suganya of Coimbatore city. Based on the complaint, cybercrime police registered the case.
The Coimbatore Police said, "Savukku Shankar (who is a YouTuber) has been arrested today by the Coimbatore City Police Cyber Crime Branch for offenses under the following sections. 294(B), 509 and 353 IPC r/w Section 4 of Tamil Nadu Prohibition of Harassment of Women Act and Section 67 of the Information Technology Act, 2000."

Police Vehicle Carrying Shankar Involved in Accident
The police vehicle transporting Savukku Shankar escorted by police personnel was involved in an accident on Saturday. The incident occurred near Dharapuram in Tirupur district while Shankar was being transferred from Theni to Coimbatore.
A car rammed into the police vehicle in which Shankar and 2 constables suffered minor injuries. The mishap took place at 4.40 AM, as per a report on Times of India.
The three of them were treated as an outpatient in a government hospital for the injuries.
Earlier, Savukku was incarcerated following suo moto contempt proceedings initiated by the Madras High Court. He was sentenced to a six-month jail term for his statement alleging that "the entire higher judiciary is riddled with corruption."
