DVAC Conducts Searches At 18 Locations Linked To AIADMK Ex-MLA Sathyanarayanan In TN

A team consisting of the Superintendent of Police and 45 others started a surprise check at the former MLA's residence in Kodambakkam and other premises across the state. 

The Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) registered a disproportionate assets case and started to search 18 locations related to former AIADMK MLA Sathyanarayanan Bakthavatchalam on Wednesday. A team consisting of the Superintendent of Police and 45 others started a surprise check at the former MLA's residence in Kodambakkam and other premises across the state. 

According to ANI, the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) registered a case against former AIADMK MLA Sathyanarayanan Bakthavatchalam for possession of disproportionate assets. The DVAC officials are currently searching 18 places across Tamil Nadu, including 16 in Chennai, and 1 in Tiruvallur and Coimbatore districts each.

The action was initiated based on a complaint by an activist at Madras High Court. Arvindkshan of Arathoon Road in Royapuram sought the Court to direct DVAC to investigate whether former T Nagar MLA got wealth beyond his known sources of income while he served as an MLA between 2016-21, reported Times of India. Hearing the case, HC directed DVAC to conduct a thorough probe into the matter. 

Previously, there were also allegations that Sathya misappropriated funds allotted for government projects including Amma indoor stadium, according to the report. 

The investigating agency registered the case on Tuesday against the former MLA for amassing wealth to the tune of Rs 2.64 crore which was found to be disproportionate to his known sources of income, said a report on IANS. The DVAC after registering the case raided 16 places linked to the former MLA, including premises in Chennai and Coimbatore. The followers of the MLA have gathered near his residence in Chennai.
