Uttar Pradesh: Schoolbus Runs Over Cyclist And Falls In Pit, Several Students Injured

The school bus driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid colliding with a cyclist. The bus crashed with a 10-foot-deep crater, according to authorities.

A man was killed and nine others were injured when a school bus overturned and plummeted into a 10-foot-deep pit in Gorakhpur on Sunday after the driver lost control of the vehicle while attempting to avoid hitting a cyclist, news agency PTI reported citing police officials. 

According to the authorities, the cyclist, Tilakdhari (50), died and the bus driver, Dharmendra Yadav (28), was critically injured in the accident in Bhainsa Dhoda village, which is part of the Khorabar police station area.

According to a school official, the vehicle was carrying 62 passengers from Deoria to Gorakhpur.

The bus driver and eight children were hurt, while the biker died on the spot. According to police, after getting information about the collision, officers from Khorabar station and Ramnagar Karjaha post arrived on the scene and rushed the injured to the hospital.

They stated that the driver and two children had been referred to the BRD Medical College for treatment.

The body of the cyclist has been sent for a post-mortem examination, according to Superintendent of Police (City) KK Vishnoi.

The bus travelled from Deoria to Gorakhpur. The students were going to the Gorakhnath temple, the planetarium, and other destinations, according to school manager Shekhar Vishwakarma, who arrived on the scene.

The bus carried 62 passengers, including schoolchildren and teachers. Aziz Ahmad (12) and Aditya Yadav (12) have been referred to the BRD Medical College for treatment, he said.

Last week, a bus carrying 48 people overturned in Maharashtra's Raigad district, killing two students and injuring dozens more. The event occurred in Raigad's Khopoli police station area while students were returning from a picnic when their bus overturned.
