UP: 14 Suspected Heatwave Deaths In Gautam Buddha Nagar In 24 Hours, Probe Underway

The police stated that the bodies have been sent for post-mortem in order to determine the exact cause that led to their deaths.

Uttar Pradesh: At least fourteen people have been reported dead under suspicious circumstances in the last 24 hours in the Gautam Buddha Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh. The cause of their deaths is yet to be ascertained although there it is suspected that they died due to the prevailing heatwave conditions.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent for post-mortem in order to determine the exact cause that led to their deaths.

The health department stated that the cause of the deaths will be clear only after the post-mortem, sources told ABP News.

Till now, bodies have been discovered in areas near police stations in Sector 142, Phase 2, Expressway, Sector 24, Sector 58, Phase 1, and Kotawali Sector 126 and 39. Around 14 bodies have arrived at the district hospital within 24 hours, the health department stated.

No Visible Signs Of Injury On Bodies

On June 18, seven people were found dead in various parts of Noida amid heatwave, without any visible signs of injury.

According to police, an unidentified person, said to be a ragpicker, was found dead near Amity University's Gate No. 5 of located in the Sector 126 area, news agency PTI reported.

A 60-year-old man, who looked like a nomad, was found dead in Noida's Sector 1. 

In Sector 58, two bodies were recovered in the Green Belt park near Khoda T-point. No visible injuries were observed on the bodies.

"The local police inspected the scene and sent the bodies for postmortem," police statement read.

On Monday, another unidentified person was found lying unconscious in Sector 61, Noida. He was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he died during treatment.

A 51-year-old security guard, Brahmanand, suddenly fell ill and was rushed to a hospital, in the Expressway area. However, he was declared dead by doctors.

In another similar case, a 45-year-old labourer, Shyamlal Bashak, hailing from West Bengal, who was currently residing in Greater Noida, fell ill. Thereafter, he was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead upon arrival in Bhangel's at the Community Health Centre, the police statement said.

Probe On To Ascertain Cause Of Deaths

A police spokesperson stated that they were currently investigating the cases and had already inititaed the legal proceedings in the matter, PTI reported.

"In all these cases, the bodies were sent for postmortem, and the exact cause of deaths will be determined after the reports are received," PTI reported citing the spokesperson.

The India Meteorological Department forecast stated that heatwave conditions prevailed in Noida on June 18. Meanwhile, the weather department has also forecast thunderstorm and lightning for the city on June 20.
