Heatwave In Europe: Deaths In Greece, Wildfires In Turkiye As 'Unusually Hot Summer' Hits Several Nations

The weather forecasters in Europe have predicted that the continent could be in for another unusually hot summer, possibly the hottest on record.

Heatwave In Europe: Heatwaves have hit parts of Europe earlier than ever in 2024. The impact of heatwaves across Europe can be gauged from the fact that Greece, Cyprus, Turkiye, and Italy are already hit by extreme heat. According to Euro News, some places are witnessing temperatures 10 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average.

The weather forecasters in Europe have predicted that the continent could be in for another unusually hot summer, possibly the hottest on record. In the United Kingdom, weather forecasters have issued a heatwave alert after the temperature rose to 26 degrees Celsius. Due to high temperatures, the Met Office issued a weather warning for thunderstorms in the UK, Mint reported, citing ‘The Mirror’.

A “major heatwave or super heatwave” is expected to hit the UK around mid-summer," reported Yahoo News, citing weather forecaster James Madden.

According to Sky News, Greece recorded its earliest-ever heatwave last week, after temperatures soared about 38 degrees Celsius for more than three days. Sky News meteorologist Steff Gaulter said It is a huge contrast to the weather in the UK, which has been "disappointingly cool" so far this month.

Heatwaves across Cyprus and Greece have claimed multiple lives. As per Euro News, Turkiye has been battling wildfires as temperatures breached the 40-degree Celsius mark. The ancient Acropolis was closed to tourists as the first heatwave of the summer hit Greece. Schools were closed, and medics were stationed across Athens.

According to meteorologists, this high heat will “go down in history” and could be a sign of things to come this summer in the country, as reported by Euro News. At least five tourists, including UK TV doctor and journalist Michael Mosley, have lost their lives in Greece in the last few weeks.
