'Soul Shattering': Priyanka Gandhi Slams BJP Over Ujjain Rape Case. Police Say 5 People Being Questioned

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Thursday slammed the MP government over the Ujjain rape case and said that no one is safe under BJP's reign.

The gruesome rape case of a 12-year-old child in Madhya Pradesh's Ujjain has yet again shamed the humanity. The victim kept roaming for over two hours, in a semi-naked condition, bleeding, but all in vain. Now, Congress has come down heavily on the BJP government in the state and questioned its slogan of 'Ladli Behna'. Party general secretary Priyanka Gandhi called the incident 'soul shattering' and added that girls, women, tribals and Dalits are not safe in MP.

"The brutality meted out to a little girl in Ujjain, the city of Lord Mahakal, is soul-shattering. After the torture, she kept wandering from door to door for help for two-and-a-half hours and then fell unconscious on the road but could not get help." "Is this the state of law and order and women's safety in Madhya Pradesh? Girls, women, tribals and Dalits are not safe in the 20 years of BJP's misrule," she said in a post in Hindi on X, formerly Twitter.

She also asked what was the use of making election announcements in the name of 'Ladli Behna' if the "girls cannot even get protection and help".

The incident came to light when a video of the girl going door-to-door for help went viral. In the footage, the victim can seen approaching a man for help, who shoos her away. The girl is reportedly mentally challenged.

Meanwhile, Ujjain SP Sachin Sharma said that five people are being questioned by the police. "We have found that the girl is from Satna...Five people who came in contact with the minor girl are being questioned."

This comes as state Home Minister Narottam Mishra said that a special investigation team (SIT) has been formed to probe the incident and a suspect has been detained.

Earlier, Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi also targeted the BJP, saying Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan will be able to hear the screams of women only if they take some time off election campaigning.

Kharge said that PM Modi is trying to get applause by roaming to places and showing the dream of reservation to women but the truth is something else.

Slamming CM Chouhan and the BJP government in the state, state Congress in-charge Randeep Singh Surjewala said, "The great sin of cruelty to a girl child in the Mahakal police station area of Ujjain. Under the ineffective BJP government, near the police station, a 12-year-old girl becomes a victim of ‘Nirbhaya’ like brutality."

According to IANS, he said that despite facing cruelty, the girl, drenched in blood, kept wandering on the streets in a semi-nude condition for two-and-a-half hours. "But the police of the Shivraj government and the entire government attack kept sleeping. The girl has also told about something "wrong" happening with her mother, but the police still have no clue about it," he alleged.

"This heart-wrenching incident is once again going to bring shame to Madhya Pradesh and the entire country. But in case of crimes against women.. Chief Minister Shivraj and the BJP government, which have made Madhya Pradesh the most unsafe state in the country. There is nothing for daughters except ‘false promises’ and ‘fake claims’. Shame on you, Shivraj ji," Surjewala added.

As per a report, IANS stated, the girl knocked on several doors to seek help but no one showed mercy. She reached an ashram where a suspected it to be a case of sexual violence, covered her with a towel and rushed her to the district hospital.

The medical examination confirmed rape, IANS stated. An official told PTI that the girl was on Wednesday operated upon by a team of specialist doctors and her condition is critical but stable, an official said.

Reports also claimed that a cop donated blood as the victim needed a blood transfusion urgently to survive.
