Puducherry: Patient's Father Assaults Doctor With Knife, Arrested
On Monday, while doctor Naveen was waiting to get his food from a delivery executive, he was attacked by the assailant.
The Grand Bazaar police arrested the father of a patient for attacking a doctor with a sharp object at the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Post Graduate Institute (IGGGHPGI) in Puducherry. The man, reportedly intoxicated, wielded a knife and inflicted a slash wound on the doctor's neck on Monday.
According to a report in The New Indian Express, the doctor identified as Naveen Kumar was a PG Ophthalmology student. A resident of Tirupattur district, Naveen, was doing his three months of District Residency Program at IGGGHPGI.

According to a report on The New Indian Express, quoting sources, the doctor required 18 sutures since the injury was two inches above the carotid artery.
It is said that Naveen escaped a fatal injury.
The police booked a case under sections 324 and 506 (ii) of IPC. They also arrested Vinoth.
After the incident, the doctors went on strike and demanded increased security for healthcare workers.
Later, the doctors and medical associations including Pondicherry Government Medical Officer Association withdrew the protest after they were assured that efforts would be taken to bolster security for hospital staff.
In May last year, a doctor was stabbed to death by a patient in Kottarakkara of Kerala district.
