Maharashtra: Day After Lonavla Incident, Man Swept Away By Gushing Water In Pune's Tamhini Ghat

The man, a trek leader, was out with 20 people, including friends and family, at the popular picnic spot. He dived into the waterfall. However, the powerful currents swept him away

A man was washed away by strong currents at Tamhini Ghat in Pune, a day after a similar incident occurred in Maharashtra's Lonavala. His body was later recovered. The man, a trek leader, was out with 20 people, including friends and family, at the popular picnic spot, NDTV reported.

Confident of his swimming abilities, he decided to dive into the waterfall. However, the powerful currents swept him away, the report said.

His 10-year-old daughter captured the entire episode on video. The footage showed him diving onto the swollen waterfall, struggling to swim back, and attempting to hold onto a rock before being swept downstream.

This incident followed the tragedy in Lonavala, where a family of seven, including children, were swept away by a raging waterfall. Only two managed to swim back. Rescue teams continued searching for one missing child.

According to a PTI report, a family of 16-17 members from Sayyad Nagar in Pune's Hadaspar area visited a spot near Lonavala for a picnic on Sunday. Sudden flooding swept away about 10 people, five of whom were rescued. The deceased included Shahista Liaqat Ansari, 36, Amima Adil Ansari, 13, and Umera Adil Ansari, 8. The body of Mariya Ansari was found on Monday morning after extensive search operations by volunteers, the Shivdurg rescue team, and Navy drivers.

The Ansari family had gone to see the waterfall near Bhushi Dam but were caught off guard by a sudden rise in water levels due to intense rainfall.

As the monsoon season began, visitors flocked to the Bhushi and Pavana dam regions, often ignoring the warnings from authorities to avoid dangerous areas. Reports estimated that over 50,000 people visited Lonavala on Sunday.
