Hyderabad: Stalker Kills 26-Year-Old Woman For Rejecting Advances, Later Attempts Suicide
The accused Rajesh, who previously worked in Bengaluru, was upset after the woman moved to Hyderabad and began avoiding him.
A 26-year-old woman from West Bengal was allegedly murdered by a man after she started distancing herself from him, police reported on Thursday. The accused later attempted to take his own life.
The victim was identified as Deepan Tamang. According to the police, the victim was repeatedly stabbed in a brutal attack late Wednesday night, as reported by PTI. The accused, Rakesh, who hails from Bidar district in Karnataka, entered the woman’s residence and assaulted her with a knife. When her roommates tried to intervene, he also attacked them, stated an official from Gachibowli Police Station.
Authorities rushed to the scene after receiving a distress call and transported the victim and the three injured roommates to a hospital. Despite their efforts, the woman was declared dead on arrival, while the other victims received treatment for their injuries.
The three injured women were Krishna, Savitri and Punita, as reported by The Hindu.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused and the woman, a beautician, knew each other and were allegedly in a relationship. The accused, who previously worked in Bengaluru, was upset after the woman moved to Hyderabad and began avoiding him. It is also suspected that he believed she was becoming involved with another man, which led to the fatal confrontation.
The woman, who was married but living separately from her husband due to personal issues, had been distancing herself from the accused for over a month.
After the attack, the accused fled the scene and later attempted suicide by climbing an electric pole near Moinabad and touching a high-tension wire, suffering severe burns in the process. Police located him following his suicide attempt and shifted him to a government hospital for treatment.
A case has been registered against the accused on charges of murder and attempted murder, and further investigation is underway.
