Red Alert In Goa As Heavy Rain Lashes State, IMD Warns Of 'Localised Flooding' — Details
IMD issued a 'Red' alert Goa and has cautioned fishermen to not go near the East-central Arabian Sea & stay off the Maharashtra-Goa-Karnataka coasts.
India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday sounded a 'Red' alert in the state of Goa as it received 'Heavy to Very Heavy rainfall, including Extremely Heavy rainfall' today. More than 204.4 millimetres of rainfall can recorded in the state. IMD on X (formerly known as Twitter) also shared the data of the rainfall received in parts of the state from September 29 to 30, Mapusa received 13cm of rainfall, Margao received 11 cm of rainfall, Ela received 11cm of rainfall, Canacona received 10cm of rainfall, and Ponda received 11cm of rainfall.

As per IMD's prediction, light/moderate fairly widespread to widespread rainfall/thunderstorm & lightning with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall with extremely heavy falls is expected over Konkan, Goa on September 30 and October 1. It also stated that heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected over central Maharashtra on Saturday and Sunday.
The weather agency also issued a warning regarding the wind speed and said that 40-50 kilometres per hour gusting to 60 kilometres per hour is prevailing over the East-central Arabian Sea along and off the Maharashtra-Goa-Karnataka coasts. IMD further said that it is likely to become 45-55 kilometres per hour to 65 kilometres per hour from the evening of September 30th and it will prevail during the subsequent 24 hours.

While cautioning about the sea condition, IMD said that rough to very rough sea condition is expected over the East-central Arabian Sea along & off the Maharashtra-Goa-Karnataka coasts on September 30 and October 1.
