UP Flood: Red Alert Issued In 6 Districts As 19 Die In Latest Spell Of Heavy Rain

The Relief Commissioner's office has issued a red alert in six districts: Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shrawasti, Sitapur, Barabanki, and Gonda.

A red alert for heavy rains has been issued in six districts of Uttar Pradesh, including Barabanki and Gonda, which have been the most impacted by the recent spell of rain, which killed 19 people in the state on Monday, news agency PTI reported. According to a senior official, more than 100 mm of rain fell in seven districts of the state in the last 48 hours, while 10 additional districts received 50 mm. Over 250 mm of rain fell in portions of Bahraich and Barabanki in the last 24 hours.

For the day, the Relief Commissioner's office has issued a red alert in six districts: Lakhimpur Kheri, Bahraich, Shrawasti, Sitapur, Barabanki, and Gonda, and an orange alert in four districts: Hardoi, Basti, Lucknow, and Siddharthnagar.

Some school districts were forced to close on Monday due to heavy rainfall. Schools were closed in Gonda and Barabanki on Tuesday as well, but reopened in Lucknow when the sky cleared.

In Barabanki, persistent rains have inundated several areas, prompting NDRF and SDRF workers to evacuate 1,500 people to safety.

Officials reported that people have been evacuated using tiny boats and that relief materials are being delivered.

Ayodhya Divisional Commissioner Saurabh Dayal visited the flood-affected regions of Barabanki on Tuesday.

Rainwater has inundated more than ten urban communities. According to authorities, 12 NDRF and SDRF boats are now visiting flood-affected areas and carrying out rescue operations.

In addition, the district government is providing impacted households with clean water and food.

According to Dayal, the waterlogging happened because the significant rainfall was concentrated over a short period of time, and the water level will drop in the next 24 hours.

Even though the weather in Gonda was clear in the morning, showers began later in the day. Due to overnight rainfall, low-lying areas, including district hospital buildings, have been inundated.

According to Gonda authorities, two buffaloes were killed by a lightning strike in the district's Tarabganj tehsil.

According to a relief commission official, multiple teams are working around the clock in various sections to deal with the problem of water logging and clearing areas of precipitation.

All embankments in the state are safe, and no breaches have been reported. According to authorities, the irrigation department's personnel is constantly monitoring the situation in various sections of the state.

According to the official, no river is running above the danger threshold everywhere, but Sharda near Palia Kalan is close about the danger mark and on the rise.

The water level of the RamGanga and Son rivers in Moradabad and Mirzapur was also rising. According to the source, NDRF and SDRF have been deployed in the districts in case of an emergency.

Food packages, foodgrains, and items such as tarpaulin sheets are being distributed in the areas as part of relief efforts.

Teams from the medical and animal husbandry departments have also been dispatched.

"Everything is under control and the district employees are on the job maintaining vigil," the official was quoted by PTI in its report. The official further stated that the state emergency operation centre and helpline are operational at the Relief Commissioner office 24 hours.

Districts have already been allotted funding in advance to carry out relief efforts, according to the source.

Four rain-related deaths were recorded in Hardoi on Monday, three in Barabanki, two in Pratapgarh and Kannauj, and one in Amethi, Deoria, Jalaun, Kanpur, Unnao, Sambhal, Rampur, and Muzaffarnagar.
