Goa Hotel Manager Drowns Wife In Sea, Tries To Pass It Off As Accident, Arrested
Police said the man killed his wife, whom he married a year back, as he suspected her to be involved in extramarital affairs.
New Delhi: A 29-year-old manager of a luxury hotel in South Goa was arrested on Saturday for allegedly drowning his wife at Cabo de Rama beach a day before, police said. The accused and the victim hail from Lucknow.
As per news agency PTI, the accused, identified as Gaurav Katiyar, tried to project the death of his wife Diksha Gangwar,27, as an accident after committing the crime.
According to police, Katiyar killed his wife, whom he married a year back as he suspected her to be involved in extramarital affairs.
The incident took place at around 3.45 pm on Friday after Katiyar took his wife for a stroll on the beach, located not far from his workplace. He took her to a rocky area of the beach and allegedly drowned her in the sea, the official further added.
After committing the crime, Katiyar deliberately created commotion and tried to pass off the incident as an accident. However, the incident of brutal murder was exposed by a local of Goa.
According to the official, a video that was shot by a local later exposed Katiyar's act. The video clip clearly shows Katiyar coming out of the beach and returning again apparently to ensure whether his wife has really died, before raising alarm to project it as an accident.
Cuncolim police rushed to the spot post on getting information. Katiyar was arrested on Friday evening after prima facie injuries on the body indicated that the woman was murdered, reported PTI.
Notably, police found the body of Diksha Gangawar that was swept ashore at around 3.45 pm on Friday near the popular beach on Friday afternoon, as reported by PTI.
"We are awaiting the postmortem report to ascertain the cause of death. The motive will be established through further investigations,” inspector Diogo Gracias told the news agency.
