'ED Is Itself An Idiot': Adhir Slams Agency Over Attack In Bengal, BJP Hits Back At Congress Leader's Flip-Flop

Speaking on the lookout notice issued against block level TMC functionary Shahjahan Sheikh, Adhir Chowdhury said “ED is an idiot” and TMC has been backing the violence mongers.

New Delhi: BJP on Sunday slammed Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury over his sudden reversal of opinion on the attack on ED team in West Bengal. Chowdhury had earlier challenged the Centre to take action against the people involved in the attack if they had the courage. However, speaking on the lookout notice issued against block level TMC functionary Shahjahan Sheikh, Chowdhury said “ED is an idiot” and the ruling party has been backing the violence mongers in the state.

Addressing a press conference, Chowdhury on Sunday said, “What will ED do? ED is itself an idiot. The ruling party in Bengal will look after him (Sheikh). The ruling party works to protect violence mongers in the party. This is a 'look after' government. So, what is the point of issuing a lookout notice? The borders are porous. They should not make tall claims - be it BJP, ED or CBI.”

Slamming the Congress leader over his flip-flop, Bengal BJP chief Sukanta Majumdar said Adhir Chowdhury, who sought action against the ED attack is backtracking today.

“The ED is doing its work. That is the reason it was attacked. Two days back, Adhir was saying that action should be taken under Section 356. Today he is backtracking that this is happening because of the alliance. The lookout notice is issued because this person (Shahjahan Shiekh) shelters the Rohingyas and has a connection with Bangladesh's Jamaat. Shahjahan Shiekh engages in all kinds of illegal activities,” ANI quoted Majumdar as saying.

Further taking a dig at the Opposition I.N.D.I.A bloc, Majumdar flagged the instability within the alliance saying Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge wanting to focus on all the seats in Bengal means they will contest all 545 seats in Lok Sabha.

“This means Congress will contest all the 545 seats. What will happen to the alliance? He (Mallikarjun Kharge) is a senior leader. He should see his own seat first because he lost the last time against our candidate. If Shiv Sena (UBT) comes with TMC, then how will it benefit Shiv Sena or TMC? They have already accepted that Narendra Modi will be re-elected. Even Mamata Banerjee hasn’t shown any interest for prime ministership. They are making Mallikarjun Kharge the scapegoat,” Majumdar told ANI.
