'Was Never Interested': Ajit Pawar Asks NCP To Relieve Him Of LoP Post In Maharashtra Assembly

Ajit Pawar came up with this demand at the 24th Foundation Day event of the Nationalist Congress Party held in Mumbai.

New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit Pawar asked the party leadership to relieve him of responsibility as the Leader of Opposition in Maharashtra Assembly, news agency PTI reported. He asked the party leadership to assign him any role in the organisation.

Ajit Pawar came up with this demand at the 24th Foundation Day event of the Nationalist Congress Party held in Mumbai. Ajit Pawar said, "I am told that I don't act tough as the leader of the opposition. I was never interested to work as Leader of Opposition but accepted the role on demand of the party MLAs," PTI quoted him as saying.

Pawar said it is up to NCP leadership to decide on his demand. "Assign me any post in the party organisation, and I will do complete justice to whatever responsibility I am entrusted with," he added.

Notably, the development comes days after NCP chief Sharad Pawar entrusted the responsibility of Maharashtra to his daughter and MP Supriya Sule by appointing her as a working president. Praful Patel was also elevated to the post of working president.

Pawar extended his congratulations and said that "it is believed that all the colleagues will successfully fulfil the responsibilities given by the honourable sirs."

Taking to Twitter, Ajit Pawar wrote, "Under the leadership and guidance of respected Sharad Chandra Pawar Saheb, Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which is making its debut in the silver jubilee year with the idea of 'Maharashtra in the heart... eyes in front of the nation...' will make a valuable contribution to the development of the country and the state. It is believed that every worker and office bearer of NCP party will work towards this goal. Congratulations again to the newly elected officials!"

Ajit Pawar took charge as the Leader of the Opposition last July after the MVA government, in which he was deputy chief minister, collapsed due to a rebellion in Shiv Sena.
