10 Killed After Explosion In Firecracker Factory In Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar, Inquiry Ordered

As per preliminary investigation, the deceased included women and added that the cause of the blast was being ascertained.

Ten people were killed in an explosion at a fireworks factory in Virudhunagar in Tamil Nadu on Saturday, police said. 

"Ten people including four women killed in an explosion at a fireworks factory in Virudhunagar district," Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin said.

As per preliminary investigation, the deceased included women and officials said that the cause of the blast was being ascertained.

The incident occurred under the Vembakottai police station limits. As per locals, the impact of blast was so high that four buildings along with the firecracker factory were destroyed following the explosion.

Virudhunagar District Collector Jeyaseelan informed that the accident took place around 12 pm on Saturday and the injured have been admitted to Sivakasi Hospital.

"The license of this plant has been duly obtained and is in effect... A detailed inquiry headed by the District Revenue Officer has also been ordered. Already, 4 teams have been formed to prevent accidents from occurring, including police, fire department, labour welfare department and revenue department. They are also conducting continuous research," Jeyaseelan said, according to PTI.

Following the incident, a team of police and the fire department rushed to the spot and admitted the injured to a local hospital.

In a similar incident in Maharashtra, a fire broke out in two companies behind Gami Industrial Park of Pawne MIDC, Navi Mumbai. Several fire tenders were rushed to the spot. 

The Pune Fire Department said that the fire broke out in a shop in the market yard near gate number 10 in Pune city and four fire tenders were present on the spot. 

Earlier this week, a fire broke out in a paint factory in outer Delhi's Alipur area leading to the deaths of at least 11 people and injuring four others on Thursday.  

A huge quantity of inflammable material was found in the premises of the factory posing a risk to human life, according to the FIR registered on the incident. The son of the factory owner was being questioned in the case as the owner was also killed in Thursday’s fire.
