Neeraj Chopra To Take Part In Lausanne Diamond League: Organisers

India’s top Javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra is likely to come back to the action for the sixth stage of the Wanda Diamond League in Lausanne on June 30, as per the PTI report.  Chopra is currently recuperating from a muscle strain he sustained. However there has been no official statement from the Olympic gold medalist as of now, but the official website of the competition stated that Chopra will be back in action in the event which will be taking place this month-end.

“In the javelin, the Indian Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will be challenged by the Czech Jakub Vadlejch and German Julian Weber,” the website has stated.

Earlier, the 25-year-old took to Twitter and announced that he sustained a muscle strain while doing his training and, as a precautionary measure. As a result, he pulled out of  FBK Games in the Netherlands (June 4) and the Paavo Nurmi meet in Finland (June 13).

"Recently, I sustained a muscle strain during my training. Following a medical evaluation, me and my team have decided to avoid any risks which can aggravate the injury," the world No. 1 had said on Twitter.

"Unfortunately, it means that I have to withdraw from the FBK Games. Injuries are part of the journey, but it's never easy. I am on the road to recovery, and will aim to be back on the track in June." 

Neeraj is also ruled out from the ongoing National Inter-State Senior Athletics Championships in Bhubaneswar. He also has a scheduled tournament at the Golden Spike Ostrava in the Czech Republic on June 27 but an official announcement is awaited. The 25-year-old had won the Doha Diamond League on May 5 with a throw of 88.67m, capping off a perfect start to the season. There is also the World Championships (August 19-27) in Budapest, Hungary, which is the major event this year, along with the Diamond League Finals and the Asian Games.
