Why KKR And Rajasthan Royals Can't Use RTM Card In IPL 2025
RTM, or Right to Match, is a rule that gives a franchise option to buy back a player who was part of their team in the previous season.
The much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction is set to take place in Saudi Arabia's Jeddah on November 24 and 25. Expectations are high that IPL 2025 auction will set new bidding records.
For the unversed, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has introduced the Right to Match (RTM) option, allowing franchises to reacquire former players. However, two teams, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) will not be able to use RTM option.

What is RTM, or Right to Match?
RTM, or Right to Match, is a rule that gives a franchise option to buy back a player who was part of their team in the previous season. If another team places the highest bid for a player, the original team can match that bid to retain the player. The rule was first introduced in 2017, with Shikhar Dhawan being the first player bought under it. However, it was removed in the 2022 auction. RTM has now been reintroduced for IPL 2025.
Rajasthan Royals (RR) won't have the option to use Right to Match (RTM) option in the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. RR have retained six players—Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dhruv Jurel, Riyan Parag, Shimron Hetmyer, and Sandeep Sharma—putting them over the limit allowed to use RTM under IPL 2025 Auction rules.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) is among the teams ineligible to use Right to Match (RTM) option for Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega auction. KKR have retained six players—Rinku Singh, Varun Chakravarthy, Sunil Narine, Andre Russell, Harshit Rana, and Ramandeep Singh—which, per BCCI rules, exceeds the limit for RTM eligibility. Only teams retaining fewer than six players can use RTM option.
