Virat Kohli Eyes Babar Azam’s T20 Record In IPL 2025

Virat Kohli is set to return in red as Royal Challengers Bengaluru begin their IPL 2025 campaign on March 22. Kohli will also have his eyes set on Babar Azam’s major T20 record.

Indian superstar cricketer Virat Kohli is set to don the colour red as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will play their first match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season on March 22 (Saturday) against the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Virat Kohli, who has been a stalwart for India across all formats for more than a decade, will have the opportunity to break Pakistan batter Babar Azam’s elite T20 record in IPL 2025.

Virat Kohli has scored nine centuries in T20 cricket, with eight coming in the Indian Premier League and one against Afghanistan in Dubai in 2022. Kohli currently sits third on the list of most centuries in the shortest format. In the upcoming IPL season, the 36-year-old will have a chance to move up the ranks and overtake Babar Azam, who has 11 T20 tons to his name.

The Pakistan star has registered three centuries in T20 Internationals, while the remaining eight have come in franchise cricket. Chris Gayle tops the chart with an incredible 22 centuries in just 455 innings. In comparison, Kohli has scored nine centuries across 382 innings, while Babar Azam has 11 centuries from 299 innings.

Players With Most Centuries In T20s

Chris Gayle: 22
Babar Azam: 11
Virat Kohli: 9

Scoring three centuries in a single IPL season is a rare feat, but Virat Kohli has already achieved it in the past. During the 2016 edition, the former RCB skipper smashed four centuries and amassed 973 runs, delivering a sensational performance. If Kohli can replicate that form in the upcoming season, he has a strong chance of surpassing Babar Azam’s tally and moving to second place on the all-time T20 century list. Meanwhile, Babar, 30, will also have the opportunity to widen his lead by performing well in the upcoming Pakistan Super League (PSL) season.
