IPL 2025: Chennai Super Kings lose their first match of IPL 2025, as Royal Challengers Bengaluru hand them a historic defeat at Chepauk on Friday. Ruturaj Gaikwad's men were outclassed in all departments, as they lost the fixture by 50 runs, which is now their biggest-ever defeat at the venue in IPL history.

Speaking during the post-match presentation ceremony, the CSK skipper concluded his speech with an interesting statement while referring the Net Run Rate scenario, stating that 'did not lose by much, just 50 runs'.

50 runs in T20 format is indeed a big margin. Therefore, Ruturaj can potentially face some backlash for his statement.

The CSK skipper lamented his side's fielding efforts, and stated that the pitch was 'sticky' when the side came out to bat in the 2nd innings, and that, 170 was the par score here.

"To be honest, I still feel 170 was a par score on this wicket. Fielding cost us this game. When you chase 170, you bat differently. You can take some time. When chasing 190, you have to go hard. It got little bit slower and little bit sticky to be honest. In the first five overs, it was sticking a lot. Don't know how it happened," said Ruturaj Gaikwad.

"I think nothing really different. Rahul backed his shot. I backed my shot. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. When you are chasing 20 runs extra, you want to have the positive intent. At the end, it wasn't a big loss. We lost by a small margin," said the Chennai Super Kings Captain.

"A different scenario when you grab the catches. You have three world-class spinners and you want the batters to face them. We dropped catches at crucial times and there was an extra six or an extra four coming after that. They got the momentum and there was no stopping them till the end," said the Indian batsman.

"Not really time. There is a long flight to Guwahati. We have to turn up mentally and look at what areas to improve. Bad days in batting and bowling can be there but I feel the fielding has to improve a lot and we have to come back stronger in the fielding department," he added.
