RCB New Head Coach: Andy Flower Joins Royal Challengers Bangalore Ahead Of IPL 2024, AB de Villiers Could Collaborate As Mentor
RCB New Head Coach: Andy Flower is set to join Royal Challengers Bangalore where a likely collaboration with AB de Villiers is on the cards.
The latest news coming in from the Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is that the team is gearing up for a new-look coaching staff ahead of the 2024 season. A fresh media report claims that Andy Flower is all set to join the team in a coaching role. He is set to succeed whose stint as the Director of Cricket Operations Mike Hesson with the side is all set to expire on August 31. It is further being learnt that the remaining members of the RCB support staff led by Hesson, including head coach Sanjay Bangar, are all slated to make an exit.
All the aforementioned claims have been made in a report carried by Cricbuzz which also suggests that team legend AB de Villiers could also join the team in the capacity of a mentor. In a later update, an official confirmation has also come from the franchise. As far Flower is concerned, the former Zimbabwe batter was the coach of the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the last couple of seasons. During his stint, LSG managed to reach the Playoffs both in 2022 and 2023.

However, Flower's association with LSG came to an end earlier this season with the KL Rahul-led side choosing to appoint former Australian opener Justin Langer as their new head coach. Earlier, it was reported that Flower was in talks with multiple franchises including the inaugural champions Rajasthan Royals (RR). But now it seems like that RCB has managed to win the race to acquire Flower's services.
Last season, RCB failed to seal a place for themselves in the Playoffs and with a new look-coaching staff at their disposal for the next season, it would be interesting to see what fresh strategy they come up with in order to get their hands on an IPL trophy which has eluded them thus far.
