RR won the toss and chose to field first as KKR posted a total of 223 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Sunil Narine emerged as the top scorer for KKR, getting his first IPL century as he made 109 runs off 56 deliveries. In a remarkable solo effort, Jos Buttler remained unbeaten with a score of 107 runs from 60 balls. His remarkable innings propelled RR to successfully chase down the target of 224 runs on the final delivery of the match with two wickets in hand.
