IPL 2023: Suryakumar Yadav To Lead Mumbai Indians If Rohit Sharma Sits Out To Manage Workload- Report

India have a packed cricketing calendar ahead which is why Rohit could choose few IPL games where he might not play.

Workload management will be a key issue for Team India as they take on Australia in the World Test Championship final not too long after the IPL. Moreover, they also have an ODI World Cup later this year and with some of Team India's key players running against time to regain fitness for the marquee event in home, they wouldn't want more of their players to nurse injuries.

It is being reported that the BCCI has sent instructions to the franchises to manage workload of the players who are regular members of the national team. While fast bowlers have been instructed not to over bowl at the nets, seems like even batters could sit out for a few matches.

A report carried by Indian Express has claimed that Mumbai Indians already have a plan in place, as Rohit could decide to take some time off. While for many seasons it was Kieron Pollard who would lead the team in The Hitman's absence and the West Indian did a fairly good job at it, this time around with Pollard with the team in the capacity of a batting coach, it will be Suryakumar Yadav who will lead the team.

Ahead of the IPL when Rohit was asked a question on players keeping themselves fit for national duty, the India captain had said that more than the franchises it is up to the players' themselves to take care of their bodies.

Mumbai Indians, the most successful team in the history of the IPL, finished at the bottom of the league table last year and Rohit & Co. will have a tough ask ahead of them if they want to turn it around this year especially with Jasprit Bumrah unavailable. MI begin their campaign against RCB at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore on April 2.
