Sunil Gavaskar, Harbhajan Singh Have Their Say On New 'Impact Player' Rule In IPL 2023
Ex-India skipper Sunil Gavaskar and former spinner Harbhajan Singh, part of the IPL commentary panel for official TV broadcasters, had their say on the new Impact Player rule.
IPL 2023 Impact Player Rule: The 16th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL 2023) began on Friday (31st March) with a blockbuster match between MS Dhoni's Chennai Super Kings and Hardik Pandya's Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
After four years, IPL, this year, is being played in its original 'Home and Away' format, with some new rules being implemented. One of such rules, introduced for the first time in the IPL is the 'Impact Player Rule'.

After the toss, each team will give a list of five substitute players apart from the playing XI. Teams can use the impact player before the start of the 14th over of the innings. If the teams are unable to use the impact player in the first innings, then there is a provision to replace them.

While Speaking on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said, "You need some time to understand new rules and acclimatise with new playing conditions. The same will be the case with all ten teams in the TATA IPL 2023. They will need some time to ace it.
"Harbhajan Singh gave a huge thumbs up to the new innovative rule.

While Speaking on Star Sports, Harbhajan Singh said, "It's a very innovative move as you can now replace a player whom you feel is not suitable or has served his purpose with someone who can make an impact in the current playing conditions. So, kudos to BCCI, it's a very good rule."
