After the toss, each team will give a list of five substitute players apart from the playing XI. Teams can use the impact player before the start of the 14th over of the innings. If the teams are unable to use the impact player in the first innings, then there is a provision to replace them.

Meanwhile, ex-India skipper Sunil Gavaskar and former spinner Harbhajan Singh, part of the IPL commentary panel for official TV broadcasters, had their say on the new Impact Player rule.

While Speaking on Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said, "You need some time to understand new rules and acclimatise with new playing conditions. The same will be the case with all ten teams in the TATA IPL 2023. They will need some time to ace it.

"Harbhajan Singh gave a huge thumbs up to the new innovative rule.
