'My Father Was Discharged From ICU Yesterday': Mohsin Khan Gets Emotional After Match-Winning Final Over vs MI
IPL 2023: LSG's Mohsin Khan had a tough time since being injured last year but delivered for his team when it mattered in a crunch game against MI on Tuesday.
It hasn't been a smooth ride for Mohsin Khan over the last year. While he did have a breakthrough season in the IPL in 2022 where he played for newcomers Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) and ended up scalping 14 wickets from 9 matches at an economy of under six runs an over, he sustained an injury which ruled him out of the entire domestic season. There were also serious doubts over his future as a pacer but the left-arm pacer has come back and how.
Not having much to do for the majority of the season, Mohsin was trrusted by the Krunal Pandya-led LSG in a crunch game against the Mumbai Indians (MI). With Krunal wanting to take the game deep, he gave the 24-year-old the opportunity to bowl the last over with MI needing 11 runs off 6 deliveries and two of the cleanest strikers of the cricket ball in Tim David and Cameron Green out in the middle. Mohsin delivered a last over which will be remembered for a long time as he conceded just 5 runs to help his team bag two important points.
After the match, the seamer became emotional while talking to the broadcasters about his performamce. He finished with figures of 1/26 in his 3 overs and revealed that his father wasn't keeping well before this game and was discharged from Intensive Care Unit (ICU), a day before this fixture.
"It's been a tough time as I was injured, playing after a year. My father got discharged from the ICU yesterday and he was in the hospital for the last 10 days and I did it for him, he would have been watching," Moshin said, his voice choking while talking to commentator Deep Dasgupta after the match.
"The plan (in the final over) was to execute what I did in practice. Even Krunal was talking to me and I told him the same," he added.
LSG's win has taken them to 15 points from 13 matches and they are currently third on the table trailing Gujarat Titans on 18 and Chennai Super Kings on 15 points but ahead of MI on 14 points.
