BCCI Offered New Venue To Host Remaining IPL 2025 Matches

With 16 matches still left to be played - including four knockout games and the final initially scheduled for 25 May - speculation is mounting over the future of IPL 2025 tournament.

The ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 season has hit an unexpected roadblock. On 9 May, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced an immediate suspension of the tournament for a week due to escalating tensions between India and Pakistan.

The decision followed a dramatic incident on 8 May, when the match between Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals in Dharamsala was cancelled midway, and the stadium was evacuated as a precaution.

Uncertainty looms over remaining fixtures

With 16 matches still left to be played - including four knockout games and the final initially scheduled for 25 May - speculation is mounting over the future of the tournament. One of the key questions being raised is: If matches can't resume in India, where will they be held?

Michael Vaughan proposes England as host

Amid this uncertainty, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has suggested that England could host the remainder of IPL 2025.

BCCI and ECB in talks?

According to media reports, preliminary discussions have taken place between the BCCI and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) regarding this possibility.

However, the BCCI has yet to issue any official confirmation on the matter. Still, the idea of moving the tournament overseas - particularly to England - is being seriously considered.

BCCI issues official statement

BCCI Secretary Devjit Saikia released an official statement confirming the suspension. He noted that the board will monitor the situation closely and announce an updated schedule and venue details in due course. “The decision has been taken in the interest of player safety and public security. A comprehensive review will be conducted before resuming the tournament,” the release stated.

With the final just weeks away, the BCCI is under pressure to make quick decisions. Whether in India or abroad, fans are hopeful that the remainder of IPL 2025 will conclude smoothly and on time.
