How PBKS & DC IPL Teams Were Evacuated From Dharamsala Amid India-Pak Tensions

Here’s how the PBKS & DC IPL teams were evacuated from Dharamsala following the suspension of the match amid the rising India-Pakistan conflict.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 has been suspended for at least one week due to escalating border tensions between India and Pakistan, following India’s ‘Operation Sindoor’ in response to the deadly terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu & Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. The Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs Delhi Capitals (DC) match no. 58 of the IPL 2025 in Dharamsala was called off midway due to air raid alerts in nearby areas, including Jammu and Pathankot.

Notably, the Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals squads were evacuated from Dharamsala on Friday and transported under heavy security to Jalandhar railway station in batches via Hoshiarpur, according to Kangra Superintendent of Police Shalini Agnihotri as reported by PTI.

According to PTI, the official confirmed that the PBKS and DC squads were en route to New Delhi on a specially arranged train.

"On Friday morning, the entire contingents of both teams, including players, coaching staff, and broadcast personnel, were moved in around 40 to 50 small vehicles from Dharamsala to Hoshiarpur, located at the Punjab border," the official said as quoted by PTI.

She also stated that the convoy was accompanied by Kangra Police until it reached Hoshiarpur, where Punjab Police assumed charge of the security. From there, the teams proceeded to Jalandhar to board a specially arranged train.

Speaking about the evacuation process during the PBKS vs DC match on Thursday, Agnihotri said: "The stadium was cleared within 20 minutes. Our first priority was the safety of everyone present. Both teams' players were immediately called back from the ground and shifted to their respective hotels under tight security."

Soon after the abandonment of the PBKS vs DC match, the announcement of IPL 2025 being suspended for at least a week followed. In an official statement, the IPL confirmed that the remainder of the 2025 season has been put on hold for a week, citing safety concerns raised by franchises, players, broadcasters, and fans. The revised schedule will be released after careful assessment in consultation with relevant authorities.
