Under the captaincy of Cook and Kohli, India and England have won five Test matches each. Alastair Cook has retired from international cricket in the year 2018. If India wins Ind vs Eng Test series, then Virat Kohli will surpass Cook to become the most successful captain.

Virat Kohli has played 10 Test matches as a captain against England, of which he has won 5. At the same time, Joe Root captained England in 10 Test matches against India and won 4 of them. When these two face each other in the upcoming Test series, Kohli and Root will have a chance to leave each other behind in this captaincy record.

Team India recently returned to India after beating Australia in the Test series 2–1, while England reached India after defeating Sri Lanka 2–0.
