WTC: Doorstep RT-PCR COVID19 Test For Cricketers Bound To Leave For Test Championship Final

This is the first ICC Test Championship Final to be played. India and New Zealand qualified for the Final based on their performance over the last two years. 

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket In India (BCCI) will provide a doorstep RT-PCR test for the Indian cricket team players who are bound to leave for England on June 2 for the final of the coveted World Test Championship. 

The Virat Kohli-led team will face New Zealand in the WTC Final that will be played in Southampton on June 18, 2021. As per a report by Cricbuzz, the BCCI will conduct RT-PCR tests of the cricketers and their family members. The isolation period for the players starts on May 18-19. The players leave on June 2 for London but before that the BCCI wants the players to be in quarantine for two weeks. The quarantine will take place in Mumbai.

BCCI's experience during the IPL was bad as a lot of players got infected with Covid-19 even after living inside a bio-bubble. That's forced them to impose stricter restrictions this time.

ICC’s website states: ‘The World Test Championship comprises nine teams competing in 71 Test matches in 27 series across two years. Comprising the top nine Test teams in the world, each team will play three home and three away series. The top two teams at the end will compete in the ICC World Test Championship Final in the UK in June 2021 with the winners crowned World Test Champions.’
