World Cup 2019: Mohammad Shami becomes second Indian bowler to take WC hat-trick

With Afghanistan in striking distance of India's 225-run target, Shami dismissed Mohammad Nabi, Aftab Alam and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman off consecutive deliveries in the final over of the game to help India clinch a nail-biting win.

India edged Afghanistan in a thrilling encounter at the Rose Bowl in Southampton on Saturday to register their fourth win in the 2019 ICC World Cup. India could hold out a stiff challenge from their Asian opponents courtesy a brilliant hat-trick by their seamer Mohammad Shami who turned around the game in his team's favour in the final over of the match. With Afghanistan in striking distance of India's 225-run target, Shami produced one of the most deadly spells in World Cup history to dismiss Mohammad Nabi, Aftab Alam and Mujeeb-ur-Rahman off consecutive deliveries in the final over. Mohammad Shami became only the second Indian bowler to take a hat-trick in the World Cup. Chetan Sharma was the first Indian bowler to take a hat-trick at the World Cup when he dismissed  Ken Rutherford, Ian Smith and Ewen Chatfield in successive deliveries in 1987  World Cup game. Shami's hattrick was only the fourth instance when an Indian bowler took a hat-trick in one day internationals. Before Shami, Chetan Sharma (vs NZ in 1987), Kapil Dev (vs Sri Lanka in 1991 ) and Kuldeep Yadav ( vs Australia in 2017) took hat-tricks for India in ODIs. Previous Hat-tricks in World Cup: Chetan Sharma, 1987 Saqlain Mushtaq, 1999 Chaminda Vaas, 2003 Brett Lee, 2003 Lasith Malinga, 2007 (4 in 4) Kemar Roach, 2011 Lasith Malinga, 2011 Steven Finn, 2015 JP Duminy, 2015
