Shakib Al Hasan To Face Jail Term Or Cricket Ban? BCB To Make Decision Before PAK vs BAN 2nd Test

Shakib Al Hasan's future hangs in the balance as the BCB have to decide on the star cricketer’s future before the second Test against Pakistan.

Shakib Al Hasan, the veteran Bangladesh cricketer, often lands himself in hot waters and remains in the public eye more often than not. However, this time around, things went up a notch after he was charged, along with Bangladesh’s former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 145 others, in a murder case during the ongoing protests in Bangladesh earlier in the month. Now, things have taken a worse turn as the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has received a legal notice, demanding the sacking of Shakib from all forms of cricket.

BCB received a legal notice requesting the removal of the Bangladesh all-rounder from all forms of cricket with immediate effect as per a Cricbuzz report. The notice was issued by the lawyers of Rafiqul Islam, father of the victim who was a factory worker and was killed in Dhaka, on 5 August amidst the country-wide protests.

Notice Against Shakib Questions His Eligibility Of Playing Cricket Amid Court Case

The notice also states that, due to Shakib being implicated in a court case, he is ineligible to remain in the national cricket team as per International Cricket Council’s (ICC) regulations.

Additionally, the notice requests that efforts be made to get Shakib back to Bangladesh promptly to aid in the progress of the murder investigation. Notably, Shakib is in Pakistan as Bangladesh are playing a two-match Test series against Pakistan. Bangladesh staged a remarkable show to defeat the hosts by 10 wickets despite Pakistan declaring the first innings in Rawalpindi.

Notably, after the appeal from the lawyer, BCB president Faruque Ahmed announced that a decision regarding Shakib's future will be made following the conclusion of the Test against Pakistan. Faruque, who held a thorough meeting with several board directors at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, mentioned that the BCB will make a decision regarding Shakib before the second Test against Pakistan, which is set to take place on August 30 in Rawalpindi.

Will Shakib Al Hasan Go To Jail?

The future of Bangladesh's star all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan hangs in the balance as the cricket board deliberates. Will he be removed from all national teams, or could he face jail time? Only time will tell.

Notably, amidst all the turmoil, Shakib had a subpar outing during the PAK vs BAN test in Rawalpindi. He only made 15 runs in the only innings that he batted and gave away 144 runs across the two innings with the bowl, claiming four wickets.
