Stephen Fleming appointed as Bengal Tigers head coach in T10 League

The decision has been taken by the franchise as they wanted to have a non-Asian coach for the upcoming season.

Chennai Super Kings head coach Stephen Fleming has bagged a new contract in the upcoming edition of the T10 league. The former New Zealand skipper has been roped in by the Bengal Tigers franchise for the coaching role.

Fleming, who has an ample of coaching experience in the shorter format of the game, will now replace the former Pakistan captain Waqar Younis as the think tank wanted a non-Asian coach this year.

“No doubts, Waqar gave more than 100 per cent but after the first season, I realised that we needed a non-Asian coach. It (non-Asian coach) definitely makes a different impact on the players, especially the Asian players,” Bengal Tigers team mentor Anis Sajan told Khaleej Times.

“Six times he has taken CSK to the IPL final and has won it three times. He has made it to the IPL knockout stage nine times,” he added.

On the other hand, Fleming expressed his excitement at getting a new coaching project.

“I am delighted to accept the invitation to coach the Bengal Tigers this year. I watched with interest the success of last year’s tournament and look forward to working with the Team Mentor – Anis Sajan and the team in this year’s competition.”

The 2nd edition of the T10 league is scheduled to begin from November 23. The tournament has been recently sanctioned by the ICC and will be organised in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
