Sourav Ganguly On Kolkata Rape-Murder Case: 'Punishment Should Be Such That...'

Former India cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has also spoken up on the issue, demanding severe punishment for the guilty in the Kolkata Rape-murder case.

The entire country is shocked and upset with the rape-muder case of a trainee doctor in Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College. Protests are happening in various parts of the country, the healthcare workers are deeply hurt and so are the women of the nation who continue to battle security issues in their own homeland even as India celebrates 78 years of independence. 

As far as the specifics of the case are concerned, the case is now being investiagaed by the Central Bureau Of Investigation (CBI) after a Calcutta High Court Order. Voices of people from different walks of life, demanding justice for the victim have increased over the last few days and now former India cricket team captain Sourav Ganguly has also spoken up on the issue, demanding severe punishment for those found guilty in the case.

"I told that last Sunday, I don't know how it was construed or was interpreted. I have said it earlier also, it's a terrible thing. Now CBI, police are investigating the matter. Its very shameful what has happened. I hope that CBI, who are investigating the matter, once they find the culprit strict punishment should be given. The punishment should be such that no one dares to commit such crime again in their life. That is important. Punishment has to be severe," Ganguly told reporters.

Meanwhile, the East Bengal vs Mohun Bagan Super Giant Kolkata Derby stands cancelled over the potential security issues that could arise amid the ongoing protests in the city.
