Kolkata Doctor Murder Case: Parents Suspect Interns And Doctors Involved, CBI To Quiz 30 Suspects, Official Says

Kolkata Doctor Murder Case: The victim's parents informed the CBI that they suspect a few interns and physicians from the same institution were involved in the crime.

The parents of the doctor who was allegedly raped and murdered at Kolkata's RG Kar Medical College and Hospital last week have informed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) that a few interns and physicians from the same medical institution were involved in the crime. According to news agency PTI, an officer from the central agency, which is probing the case under the orders of the Calcutta High Court, confirmed that the parents provided names of those they suspect to be connected to their daughter's killing.

"The parents told us that they suspect the involvement of multiple persons behind the sexual assault and murder of their daughter. They have given us names of a few interns and doctors working with their daughter at the RG Kar Hospital," said the CBI officer, as quoted by PTI.

The CBI has prioritised questioning doctors and officers of the Kolkata Police who were initially involved in the investigation. "We have zeroed in on at least 30 names whom we will be calling for questioning. We have already started questioning them," the officer added. On Friday, the CBI summoned one house staff member and two post-graduate trainees (PGTs) who were on duty with the doctor on the night of her death. Additionally, the officer-in-charge of the Tala Police Station was questioned by CBI sleuths on Thursday night.

The body of the post-graduate trainee was discovered in the seminar room of RG Kar Hospital on August 9. A civic volunteer was arrested the following day in connection with the case. The CBI on Friday took the arrested man to the hospital for a reconstruction of the crime scene, according to a source cited by PTI.

Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case: Parents On Protests, 'Crores Of Children Standing With Me Now'

Speaking to media persons, the deceased doctor's father expressed support for the protests while sharing his concern regarding the fateful night.

"My daughter left for duty at around 8:10 am that day. She was on OPD and last spoke to her mother at around 11:15 PM. In the morning, when my wife was calling her, her phone was ringing but no one picked up. By that time, my daughter had died. The matter of concern is that from 3 AM to 10 AM, nobody needed her, despite her being an on-duty doctor," he stated.

Addressing the ongoing protests by doctors at RG Kar Hospital, he said, "All the people who are protesting on the streets are like my sons and daughters. My daughter has passed away, but crores of children are standing with me now", as quoted by news agency ANI. He further added, "She had to face some problems in college; the entire department was a suspect."

When asked about the investigation, he mentioned, "I spoke to the officials of CBI yesterday, but I cannot say anything else since the matter is subjudice."
